Announcing Model9 Cloud Data Manager for Mainframe v1.6
Thursday, September 10, 2020 – Model9, a pioneer in cloud data management for Mainframe, is pleased to announce Model9 Cloud Data Manager for Mainframe v1.6, which is highlighted by the ability to perform on-demand data set level archiving operations directly from the mainframe to any cloud, on-prem, hybrid or public. This functionality enables the integration of archive operations within scripts and JCLs to simplify storage administration while eliminating dependency on external systems.
As with previous releases, Model9’s software is designed to bridge the gap between mainframes and cloud, replace costly tapes and VTLs with hybrid cloud storage, and allow data analytics tools to directly process previously-inaccessible mainframe data.
Some of the major innovations in version 1.6 include:
Initiate ad-hoc, on-demand archive from the mainframe. Move data sets to and from cloud storage as required, without waiting for server-based policies to run – using TSO/E commands or batch jobs. This agile feature can be used in a wide variety of cases:
- System operators can immediately handle critical disk space shortages.
- Users can specify archive retention periods, allowing them to migrate data sets to the cloud for regulatory storage purposes, and to automatically delete them after a predetermined period.
- Programmers and system administrators can move specific data sets as needed for pre-production test setups. They can easily manage temporary files – such as dump files – which can be quickly archived following their use.
This same, powerful feature can be used to accelerate and simplify mainframe to cloud migration projects by moving data sets to the cloud while maintaining the ability to manage them from the mainframe. Once on the cloud, the data can be transformed to a readable format and be accessed securely by cloud applications.
Run the management server in z/OS container extensions (zCX) and eliminate any dependency on external systems. The Docker container can be deployed on zCX, Linux on Z, or any other Docker, while supporting the familiar user interface.
