Announcement: Model9 is now a BMC Software company.

Implement cloud backup and DR directly from the mainframe to any cloud or on-premises storage system. Perform backup, archive, space management and DR using object storage and fully replace legacy storage management software. This allows affordable long-term archiving using cold storage services such as Amazon S3 Glacier and Microsoft Azure archive storage, and if disaster strikes, data can be restored directly from the cloud.
Model9 Manager consolidates multiple backup and tape management software products into a single solution that dramatically reduces costs and provides a complete replacement of existing backup and tape management software. It can even run side-by-side with legacy backup and tape management software for simplified migration. And, with parallel restore from the cloud, business continuity is less of a worry.
In contrast to any possible configuration of on-premises storage, the cloud is limitless in terms of scalability and flexibility – and it is highly automated. In practice, this means storage can be optimized for the most cost-effective tier to deliver the performance you need – and it can be reconfigured easily on the fly as needs change and be accessed at a moment’s notice. It’s the right approach for storage in a world that demands agility and speed.
Data needs to move at the speed of business, not at a pace imposed by sequential tape reads or processes that depend solely on an overworked CPU. With Model9 Manager, zIIP engines can help move data faster within the mainframe environment or entirely off the mainframe. Model9 Manager also offers faster, high performance data transfer over TCP/IP, leveraging both compression and parallelism. This makes restoring data from the cloud much faster.
With the Model9 Manager data set import policy, it’s easy to copy any data set to cloud storage directly from tape. Model9 has designed the process to be simple and automated to support the migration of large amounts of data from tape to cloud, enabling the complete replacement of VTL hardware with cloud storage. With Model9 Manager, it is even possible to take tape data sets stored in cloud storage and export them back to disk or tape for processing by mainframe applications.
Write/read mainframe data sets directly to and from the cloud, without converting tape-oriented applications. Operations on tape storage are automatically redirected to the cloud – without rewriting JCL. Model9 Manager performs the data transfer directly, requiring no interim disk space on DASD, and enables customers to completely stop relying on physical or virtual tape hardware.
